Dear Roadrunners,

Tomorrow will mark the peaceful transfer of power to a new presidential administration. Such transitions are a hallmark of our democracy and can also evoke a range of emotions, including uncertainty about potential policy changes. As we reflect on the potential for executive orders that might affect our community, as suggested in various headlines, I want to affirm, along with our Board of Trustees, the University’s steadfast commitment to our core values, including access and diversity. Our mission and these values remain our North Star, guiding us as we adapt to change and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for all.

I also recognize that in this highly polarized political environment our community holds diverse opinions and perspectives. As a public university, we are committed to creating welcoming learning spaces, where respectful dialogue empowers students, faculty and staff members to explore ideas and form broad, fact-based world views.

We are dedicated to providing a safe learning environment for all, regardless of immigration status, national origin, race or religion. Immigrants are an integral part of our community, and our Immigrant Services Office, LGBTQ Resource Center, Counseling Center and Student Care Center continue to provide robust resources and support, including free legal assistance.

Please know that we are closely monitoring potential policy changes that may affect our mission and community. A group of faculty members, staff members and students meets regularly to monitor potential policy impacts on our mission and provide resources. Community members will also have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss concerns with the University’s general counsel and staff from the Immigrant Services Office. Please stay tuned to University communication channels for more information.

Through leadership transitions, policy shifts, budget challenges and unprecedented global events, our respect for diverse viewpoints and Roadrunner resilience have carried us forward. Our CADRE values – community, access, diversity, respect, and excellence – remain deeply rooted in the fabric of who we are as a University.

Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our mission and for embodying the values that keep us moving forward together.

Sincerely,

Janine Davidson, Ph.D.
President
